Something Blue

I saw this beautiful wedding over at Green Wedding Shoes and fell in love. The bride, (her name is Bowen, how cool) wore a dress by Minna K. I like the blue ribbon, it's a cool way to add that 'something blue' into a wedding. It's very simple so the ribbon kinda gives it its edge.
I have been realizing more and more as I do this that I really love wedding gowns. I like the meaning behind them, I like how each bride can find something that really suits her personality and style and I like how they are all unique in some way or another. whether it is a simple gown with some ribbon or a ball gown with some delicate lace or hand beading.

Layer me

Who doesn't love layers and ruffles? You won't believe me when I tell you that this dress is from Jcrew. The photograph makes it looks like it would be perfect for someone with a fun beach wedding. I have plans on making a gown with layers of fabric.

Ladybug

Have a good weekend everyone! I'm out in NJ today for our company outing. I have every intention of laying by the pool with my ipod and a book, relaxing the day away.

Rome if you want to

I spotted this dress this morning and I just couldn't wait to put it up. It was spotted on Ritzy Bee Blog. It is in the lastest issue of Weddings Unveiled Magazine, a magazine to inspire southern weddings. I've never lived in the south, i probably never will (okay well you never know) but I am always in awe of southern weddings. they are nothing like the weddings i've been to or seen in the midwest. Back to the dress, is a stapless, silk shantung taffeta with ruffles in ice blue by Romona Keveza. Just Beautiful

Color Inspiration

If you've ever been to Snippet & Ink or 100 Layer Cake you've probably noticed their inspiration boards. Color is something i've never been good at (I might try, but who am I kidding). Well these ladies are great at it. I have so many favorites, that I would never be able to choose just one. These are two of the ones I adore!

One Dress, 365 Days

This past May, Brooklyn designer Sheena Matheiken started The Uniform Project. This is a year long project where she will wear only one dress for an entire year as an excersice in sustainable fashion. She will reinvent her look every day with layers and accessories.
Sheena is also doing this as a yearlong fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India.

Headcase

It seems everywhere you look there are new and fun headbands out there. I Love wearing headbands. personally I wear them to keep my crazy hair in control, especially in the summer months, and I get overwhelmed when thinking about accessorizing. So headbands to me are really easy to put with an outfit. While looking through the web you will see that more and more people are venturing to wear them and to even incorporate them into their wedding. I absolutely love the tulle headband tied to the side. I couldn't pull it off, but it sure makes a statement. Adding a headband into your everyday life is so easy, and something that is forgotten about.

Totally Vintage

There are a couple things I love about this dress. It looks vintage, the fabric, the length and the photography tops it off. The photos are of an actual bride in her dress. you can see more pictures here. I really like the fact that it isn't modern, but it isn't completely traditional either.

I'm loving the Refinery 29's wedding dress round-up. You'll be happy to know you really don't have to look like a $5K frosted cupcake. So, in honor of all you renegade brides out there, they have assembled a round-up of gowns and frocks that not only flatter but fit the originality (and affordability!). The gowns are modern, stylish and start at $100.

Back in the Lab

Last week I started a class at FIT. They offer great opportunities for professionals looking to further their skills or learn new ones. I have a love of wedding and special occasion gowns. It is a part of the fashion industry that I would die to be apart of(I'll be quite honest, my dream is to start my own business designing custom gowns for people). Anyways this class I am in this summer is Bridal Gown Sewing. I about jumped out of my seat when I first saw this kind of class being offered. Being able to take this class makes me feeling like I am taking some steps in the right direction of where I want to be.

Here is the pattern that I bought for the class and part of the curiculum is that you have to change it to make it your own. I won't let you in on the changes but when the class is done I'll show everyone the completed gown(which I hopefully can sell to someone who falls in love with it.)

Silky Smooth

I wish I had another view of this dress. but even from this picture, I know the dress is gorgeous. The low back, drapy neck and the fabric detail on the strap, even the fabric of the dress looks silky and drapy... I love it!

Where the Wild Things Are

I recently found out that a movie has been made based on this amazing childrens story. Where the Wild Things Are. I have very vivid memories of my mom reading this book to me, my sister and even coming into my first grade class and reading it to all of us. she had a different voice for each of the different Wild Things. And now, everytime I'm at the book store and I walk by the book, I want to buy it. If I actually followed through with that thought, I would probably have a stack of them for no reason at all. Well I can't wait for the movie to come out in October.

Dreaming of Maine

Maine has been on my mind for a while. I've never been but one day I saw a post over at A Cup of Jo and I immediately wanted to start planning a trip. More recently my BF and I were talking about taking a trip together and he mentioned going to Maine. We haven't made any plans yet, but I'm really interested in going on a windjammer tour. also, Travel + Leisure rated Bar Harbor, Maine one of the 50 most romantic getaways.

Get away this year!

Green Air

Over the past year or so, i have attempted to grow plants in my apartment. some have succeeded and some have failed. Going forward I decided I need to invest in plants that don't need a lot of maintenance. I made two purchases from our local green house.

The first is a philodendren plant. These guys need little care and can sometimes go 2 weeks with out water.

The second is an Anthurium. the woman that was helping me told me that the leaves will actually droop when it needs water. so it tells you in it's own way that it is thirsty. How convienent!

So, for those of you who don't believe you could handle a plant, get one of these two and you should be just fine! Plus, my mom tells me that plants are good to have anywhere you live because they give you cleaner air to breath! Good luck

Some Inspiration

I saw these dresses over at perfect bound today as a part of her 'daily inspiration'. These are some georgious gowns that are very inspiring. I especially love the short dress with the yards of tulle as the veil... so much that she can wrap it around her.

Miles Apart

For those of you who don't know me, I live in New York City and my boyfriend lives in Wisconsin. People are always so amazed to hear that we are able to have this amazing relationship and hardly see each other. I can't lie, it is hard some of the time, but we've found some books that make light of our situation and give us some fun ideas to stay connected. Plus we've created some of our own to keep us going strong.
The Long-Distance Relationship Guide: Advice for the geographically challenged

here are a few pointers they give:
Make care packages: you can theme it with a holiday or an event, send a plane or bus ticket. I always liked to send gift cards to starbucks.
Create rituals: always call at a certain time of day, watch the same tv show, etc... so it feels like you are doing something together.

Personally, what works best for me is planning the next time we are together. It's gives me something to look forward to. The next time I will see my boyfriend he is going to teach me how to golf... it should be an interesting time.

For the Love of Honey!

I've secretly been wanting to do this for a long time and I've finally decided to take the plunge into the blogging world. I could never figure out what I would blog about, and then, after talking to some friends, I realized that I don't have to fall into one category, that I can dabble into it all, fashion, photography, special events, friends, family, nature, travel, I have been an avid reader of numerous blogs and am excited to share the things that inspire me and that I hope will inspire others. I have no idea where this will take me, but i hope we all enjoy the ride!
